EDMOND—The Philadelphia Church of God food services department added Edmond congregation member Renee Glennon on March 3. Glennon works part-time with 11 Herbert W. Armstrong College students and one graduate under department head John Krueger and head chef Dawn Krueger, preparing meals for Herbert W. Armstrong College students and pcg employees.

Glennon moved to Edmond eight months ago with her daughter and had been volunteering in the campus vegetable garden for about four weeks when Mrs. Krueger approached her. She asked if Glennon would volunteer to deliver lunch to Pastor General Gerald Flurry and a handful of other staff members at the hall of administration.

“I was excited to volunteer in the garden, and then when they asked me to do meals for the hoa [Hall of Administration], it was very exciting,” Glennon said. “It set me back a bit. It was just, Wow, meals for Mr. Flurry. ” A week later, she was hired on as a part-time employee. “I was very much surprised; extremely surprised,” she said.

“I’ve always loved the kitchen,” she added. “I had a catering business before we came into the Church [17 years ago], but I couldn’t keep doing that after we were called.” The business catered food for Western-style functions, including country weddings. Glennon has also worked as a bartender and waitress. She said the job that gave her a good idea of what is expected and required in the headquarters kitchen was her experience volunteering there for Philadelphia Youth Camp. “It’s nice to be in the kitchen now, when it’s not as hectic [as pyc], and I can learn better,” she said.

Glennon describes herself as “basically just another mom in the kitchen, somebody the girls can go to when Mrs. Krueger isn’t there.” Her main role still consists of preparing and delivering lunches to the administration building, but she also helps with other general duties in the kitchen, which recently included deleavening the entire kitchen with its five fridges, a large freezer and several kitchen storage rooms.

“In the kitchen you have to perform every day, and I love it,” Glennon said. “It really keeps you active.”
