TEXAS—Eighteen seniors from the Fort Worth congregation took a trip back in time to the Log Cabin Village on June 1.

Located in Fort Worth, the “living history museum” is a collection of seven cabins, a one-room schoolhouse and a smokehouse built in the mid-1800s. These structures were relocated from their original site in northern Texas and restored to give visitors an experience of what life was in that era. Some seniors said they were amazed at how simple 19th-century Texas life was and remarked that the visit was educational.

“As we toured each cabin, you tried to put yourself in the place of these early Texan,” Local Church Elder Larry Walker said. “They had a tough life making things work out on the prairie. When those people are resurrected, they are going to be amazed at what happened after what they pioneered here in this area.”

The group then gathered at a nearby restaurant. Each senior brought two old photographs that meant something to them, and the group shared stories and laughs about their past with the group.

“My wife and I enjoyed having a meal with the senior brethren,” member Hank Schuett said, “and especially hearing about their favorite pictures along with memories past of each attendee.”
