Johannesburg Singles Race Around
South African singles keep ‘track’ of the racetrack.

SOUTH AFRICA—Four singles from the Johannesburg congregation of the Philadelphia Church of God raced on June 21 at the Indy Kart track in Roodepoort, Gauteng.

Because it was also Father’s Day, a few non-single brethren joined to supplement the team numbers.

Three teams, consisting of three drivers each, listened to the race official explain the rules of engagement. The goal: Complete as many laps as possible in 20 minutes. The team to complete the most laps in one hour would win.

“The speed was awesome and really got the adrenaline pumping. I just loved the wind in my face,” member Brenda Muller said. “When can we go again?”

The orange team was crowned victors with 103 completed laps. Afterward, the drivers went to a nearby pizza restaurant to discuss their race day performance.

Member Divan Muller said, “The track had everything we needed for a great race: high-speed corners, hairpin bends and space for overtaking.”
