Canadians Play Bocce at Summer Social
Participants age from 7 to 79

CANADA—About 50 members of the Edmonton congregation of the Philadelphia Church of God attended a summer social on August 30 that included a potluck meal and a bocce tournament.

Participants ranged in age from 7 to 79, including visiting members from the Calgary congregation.

Before the final two games of bocce were played, the pie contest winners were announced. Member Elesia Barlotta baked the winning fruit pie, and Rebecca Westerbaan took home the top prize in the non-fruit pie category.

The final game of bocce pitted the undefeated sibling team of Kevin and Sharon Clarke against Ouida Byskal and Rebecca Westerbaan. Byskal and Westerbaan, who had never played bocce and signed up at the last minute, won 12-5.

“I absolutely loved it because it was a way to bring the family together and just to see the smiles on everyone’s faces—win or lose,” member Sharon Clarke said. “It was a great event.”
