With the amazing amount of technology at our disposal, singles can do quite a few things to make the many miles in between us seem a lot shorter. We would like to start making a series of posts on ideas for things you can do on a date.

The most traditional date is having a meal together. With that in mind, cue Eat 24! This website allows you to ship a meal to certain areas of the United States. To see a full list of the areas they serve, click here. With this tool, you can schedule to ship a meal to both you and your date. Once the meal arrives, you could get on Google Hangout (or another video chat platform) and eat with your date “on the other side of the table” just as you would in person.

To use Google Hangout, you need a Gmail account. If you do not have one, it is simple to create. Follow these simple steps to get the “Hangout” up and running:

Create a new Gmail account:

  • Click here to start (mail.google.com).
  • Click “Create an account.”
  • Enter your personal information such as name, birthday, gender, cellphone number and desired gmail username and password.
  • Google will then send you a text message containing a verification code.
  • Enter the received code to verify your account.
  • Add a photo (optional).

Set up a Google Hangout:

  • Add a contact by typing their name or email in the New Hangout field on the left side of your screen.
  • Your new contact’s name will appear on the list.
  • Click the name to open an instant message box.
  • Click the icon with a little camera.
  • Click “Install Plugin.” Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Be sure your microphone and camera are in working order.

Once all of these things are in order, you should be able to see your date via video. You can even make it full screen and set it at a place setting in front of you just as if you were out at a restaurant.

As Antonius Hallmark mentioned in his article, if buying a meal is out of your budget, then perhaps you can each make a meal together. Set the table and do everything you can to make it feel as if you were at a restaurant.

As with all dating, have a mindset of serving and strive to get to know the person you are dating.

We would like to challenge you to have one of these video dinner dates before the Singles Winter Weekend. Be sure to comment below on how it went and help encourage the other singles out there. Remember, we are family. Use this wonderful opportunity to get to know your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
