Newfoundland Spokesman Club Holds First Ladies Gala
British-themed event reminds members of Club’s purpose.

CANADA—Fifteen Newfoundland Spokesman Club members and guests attended their first-ever ladies gala on April 30 in Holyrood. Philadelphia Church of God Preaching Elder Kirk Macdonald and his wife, Nichole, joined them at the Tea Garden restaurant overlooking Holyrood Bay for the British-themed event, dubbed “God, King and Empire.”

Topics master Clarence Somerton provided information about the British flag. The first speaker, Glenn Tiller, explained the benefit and purpose of Spokesman Club. Bill Whalen gave a colorful speech on his hometown of Bell Island. Guy Parsons presented the facts on the local marine ecological disaster that led to the 1992 cod moratorium.

Mr. Macdonald, the Club director, stated in his closing remarks that Spokesman Club offers royal training not available anywhere else.

“I really enjoyed the afternoon with the lovely atmosphere and royal service that was provided,” Newfoundland member Sharon Tiller said. “It was a chance to see my husband and the other men speak, and it gave us some insight into what Spokesman Club is all about.”
