FLORIDA—Accompanied by wives, dates and teenage sons, and traveling from all parts of Florida and from southern Georgia, 20 members of the Dade City Spokesman Club met in Tampa on February 15 for the club’s first ladies event of the season.

After conversation over hors d’oeuvres and an open bar at Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant, club director John Cocomise opened the meeting with prayer. President David Miller welcomed the guests and said Spokesman Club’s purpose is to train true leaders, adding, “Jesus Christ is our perfect example of true leadership.”

Topicsmaster Jeremy Cocomise brought every club member and teen as well as several of the ladies to his or her feet, asking questions about memorable dates, pet peeves, qualities developed in club and subjects individuals would like to teach in the World Tomorrow.

Member Christine Lieberman said, “It was wonderful to be part of a Club ladies event again and to be able to enjoy the fellowship of brethren I don’t see that often.”

Toastmaster Danny Riffle introduced the speakers by sharing the fruits each speaker believed club had helped him produce in his life. Speech topics ranged from avoiding food additives to effective listening.

After the director’s second-half evaluation and the presentation of the speaking trophies, the club director awarded two graduation certificates to men who had earned them the prior club season: Clay Smedley and Richard Kay.

Assistant Director Iain Harper gave a short lecture on how to use language. Then Mr. John Cocomise spoke about godly leadership, saying, “Good leaders are never focused on themselves but rather on those being led.”
