Canadians Hold Summer Picnic
Event includes barbecue, auction, softball and cookie competition.

ONTARIO—As the fresh, crisp summer morning air of August 13 began to mingle with yellow rays of sunlight, more than 60 Philadelphia Church of God members from the Milton and London congregations equipped with bats, gloves and picnic chairs arrived at the Old Campbellville Ballpark for their annual summer picnic and auction in the little town of Campbellville .

After a hearty barbecue meal, everyone gathered for the annual auction of items provided by the brethren. Regional Director Fred Dattolo and Local Elder David Weeks amused the audience with their auctioneering skills that brought laughter, smiles, and lots of sales. Many items were sold above the asking price, with the proceeds going to the local church activity fund.

“The auction featured a generous variety of items from a tricycle to home-grown lettuce and vegetables to kitchen items and artwork,” Milton member Anthony Di Santo said. “Brisk bidding on items illustrated the quality of the sale items.”

The day continued with fellowship and games with the children playing in the park. Others participated in a family softball game.

“The softball game was a blast,” said regional office staff member Tyrel Schlote, who captained the winning team. “We had players ranging from 5 to 55, and everyone was just enjoying themselves. The game was exciting from start to finish.”

The matchup came down to the last play at home plate, and “The Overcomers” emerged as the victorious team and was presented with the Milton Activity Cup.

The Canuck Cookie Competition included 14 entries of various colors, sizes and ingredients. Rosemarie Friesen took home the ribbon for third place, while staff member and deaconess Elaine Armstrong won first and second place.

Armstrong said, “We were blessed with a beautiful day to come together to enjoy fellowshipping, eating, shopping and softball for those more energetic.”
