Arkansas Members Camp Out for Labor Day

ARKANSAS—From September 1 through 4, 56 Philadelphia Church of God members from Central Arkansas held a Labor Day campout at “Mt. Hensley Hideaway,” the property of members Paul and Sherry Hensley.

On Friday night, Local Church Elder Darren Verbout gave an outdoor Bible Study centering on building for God. Members fellowshipped while they made s’mores around a campfire. On Sabbath morning, teens prepared brunch. Following Sabbath services, members shared thoughts in a topics session, went on hay rides and played capture-the-flag after sunset. Sunday morning started with a 5K run, followed by boating and skiing at Greer’s Ferry Lake. The day culminated with the baptism of Jeanine Robinson in the Hensley’s pool by Pastor Wik Heerma and Mr. Verbout.

Paul Hensley said the baptism was the highlight of the event because it brought in the spiritual side of what was represented on the property.

Local member Daniel Ladenburg said, “The campout was a unifying experience where we saw God work miracles with the weather.

All the fellowship and activities really primed us spiritually for the upcoming fall holy days.”

Assistant camp coordinator Hank Chadwick said, “the campout was a beautiful display of families building stronger families.

The flexibility and dedication of God’s people to serve where needed helped make this first annual campout a successful event.”
