WASHINGTON—The Gig Harbor Spokesman Club held its year-end event on July 13 at the Hub City Club in the historic city of Centralia. The ladies night event included topics and speeches in an elegant period environment.

With 1920s music playing in the background, 20 spokesmen and their wives and guests mingled around a large bar and giant mirror as natural light shone down from two large skylights onto round tables decorated with peacock feather centerpieces.

“The room had elegant touches that gave the old building a lot of character,” guest Jessica Lowry said.

Club president Daniel Young introduced the meeting by reflecting on the season and acknowledged the efforts of the club’s members and officers. Topicsmaster James Lowry followed with questions that garnered input from spokesmen and ladies.

Assistant club director Darren Verbout evaluated the first half of the meeting, commenting on the growth in club members and the sacrifices each had been made to revive the Gig Harbor club after the congregation had gone a few years without it.

After more fellowship and a catered meal, toastmaster John Brau introduced the speakers for the evening.

Ole Schow wore a mining light strapped to his forehead as he delivered an add-color speech about his trip through Hezekiah’s Tunnel in Jerusalem. Justin Van De Water gave a stir-to-action message about the fourth law of success, drive. Matthew Young delivered a complete speech about idioms, and Robert Brown gave an inspire speech about two dedicated women who remained loyal to the pcg until they died.

Director Gareth Fraser concluded the evening with his evaluation and lecture, saying, “When you read of the way the world is going, see it from the point of view of biblical teaching and of prophecy, Spokesman Club should be a pulsating, beating heart of prophecy in a congregation.”

Guest Sarah Young said, “I enjoy seeing the growth in the speakers and hearing the details from the director on how club affects the men and their families, congregations, and eventually all mankind.”
