Responses to KPCG So Far: ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’
Trumpet Radio hosts share feedback from first year of broadcasting.

EDMOND—Over the past year, kpcg listeners from around the world have responded to Trumpet Radio through comments, phone calls and droves of e-mails. Here are some notable comments related by kpcg hosts and presenters.

Trumpet Daily Radio Show
“I received a comment the other day from a listener in Australia who said she thinks she’s listened to every single tdr since we started on May 5 last year. That amounts to 250 programs or so. That’s a dedicated listener. Overall, I’ve gotten quite a lot of positive feedback after playing clips from Mr. Armstrong.”
—Host Stephen Flurry

“Just a quick note to let you know how much I have appreciated not only the tdr show, but the entire meal of material available on kpcg. It’s been a wonderful way to keep my mind focused and thinking on a right track throughout my daily work schedule. I find myself experiencing the gamut of emotions as I hear the clips of Mr. Armstrong and the wonderful grasp of God’s truth that God gave him. What a wonderful tool we have in being able to resource those sound bites even these 30 or more years since he spoke them. Thank you for filling your shows with these wonderful gems. It is timeless, priceless understanding.”

Trumpet Hour
“I’ve had many members tell me they love the radio—they listen to it on their commute, or on the job, or in the mornings, or whenever and wherever they can. They say it’s a lifeline. It ties them into headquarters. It keeps them up to date with what really matters, because other news sources just don’t talk about those things. It’s been overwhelmingly positive.”
—Host Joel Hilliker

Live By Every Word
“I’ve had people tell me they appreciate my program in particular. They say they can’t wait to listen to it on Sabbath mornings while eating breakfast. It has … helped their personal Bible study. It has strengthened them spiritually to give an answer at work or school. Ministers tell me it has helped new contacts come along in understanding the basic doctrines of the Church.”
—Host Brian Davis

Music For Life
“I received a lot of great feedback over the first year. Some of it came in person when I visited the Philippines; there are so many dedicated listeners down there who thrive off the radio station and the music program in particular. Music is a strong love in that country, but there is not a lot of formalized education for the majority, particularly in relation to music history. I’ve also received feedback from a couple extremely dedicated listeners in Canada and one from a small village in Nigeria.”
—Host Ryan Malone

Just the Best Literature
“Dear Mr. Leap, I just heard your program on Hemingway’s book, The Old Man and the Sea. I am very impressed. The discussion you and your panel had was very interesting. I must say, you are one of the few people that encourage critical thinking and analytical skills that we all need to apply in our reading. I applaud your approach in teaching this to young and old alike. Keep up the good work! Thank you.”

The Sun Also Rises
“Thank you Mr. Jacques and all who contribute to the show. … The stories and music are uplifting. I tossed my cigarettes this morning after hearing Mr. Flurry’s admonition to lay siege to your biggest problem, then heard your story about quitting smoking this afternoon.”
—E-mail response

“I just love this new series. I just listened to the latest one about memory, and it brought tears to my eyes. What hope in this message! This is a beautiful, uplifting program. Please keep it going!”
—E-mail response

“Beyond e-mails, I have also heard several members at services, via phone, et cetera, express great interest in the show. The comments that most catch my ear are those about non-members taking an interest. I think four different people have said that they have unconverted friends or spouses who listen to tsar and really enjoy it. Hopefully, they will start to listen to the more biblical shows soon, as well.”
—Host Jeremiah Jacques

The Joys of Health
“I’ve heard several comments about the Joys of Health segments; basically, just that people appreciate those little reminders. It’s nothing they haven’t heard before, just solid principles that we forget to incorporate. Specifically, several people have told me they drink more water now, or wash their hands more thoroughly after those segments on diet and cleanliness.
—Presenter Sarah Evans

Ambassador For Peace
“Since the online revolution over the past 25 years, print, radio and TV have had their audiences fragmented and reduced [due] to the global sales of mobile smart phones. Today, as we all know, radio is a smaller audience demographic compared to TV or video online streaming. kpcg entered this scene at a time when audio streaming encountered a small increase, particularly in podcasting. People on the whole do not sit waiting to listen to a radio program; they want their content on demand at their schedule.
—Presenter Gareth Fraser

“The consistent feedback from working Church members and new contacts is that, if and when they listen to kpcg, it is most particularly during their traffic commute to and from work. The only exception to this would be on Sabbath mornings. Retired and or non-working members and new contacts have told me they listen more frequently. The repeated refrain from all who I have spoken with is that they would like to receive kpcg program offerings via podcast or similar type of technology, which we offer for most of our programs.”
—Presenter Gareth Fraser

Additional Feedback

“With the hourly news updates, some have mentioned they appreciate that we cover stories that mainstream media doesn’t seem to think are important. I think brethren also like that the station has such a mixture of content: Bible basics, spiritual principles, music education, literature, uplifting examples, current events, classical music, hymns, et cetera.”
The Joys of Health presenter Sarah Evans

“I don’t know what I did before kpcg came into my life. Thank you very much.”
—E-mail response

“I received a call today from a member who is blind. She stressed how much she values kpcg and has it on every day. She mentioned how much she enjoys all the programming and went into detail about just about every person that is on the radio. It really is a lifeline for her, especially since she is blind. She says they cancelled their cable and have replaced it with kpcg. We probably don’t realize the difference the station makes in some people’s lives.”
—E-mail to show hosts from station manager Dwight Falk

“[G]oing in, we were aiming to reach an audience beyond our members and co-workers. That may take time. Right now, we have a very supportive audience that consists mostly of members and co-workers. But we have been advertising the station on TV here in the UK, so hopefully we will see our audience expand as we head into our second year of broadcasting.”
